Warwick Business School (WBS) is a globally leading provider of finance and business research and education. Our Doctoral Programme is an integral part of the research culture of the School and it is one of the largest and most successful programmes of its kind in Europe, with over 150 doctoral PhD in finance researchers from more than 40 countries.
As a doctoral researcher at WBS you can expect ideas, rigorous critical enquiry, international perspectives and practical relevance to shape your experience and your work. You will work under the supervision of at least two supervisors, selected from a faculty of over 180 academic staff, most of whom are recognised experts in their field. You will also receive plenty of support through a comprehensive and structured research training programme which is recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Doctoral Programme
We offer two variants of the programme: general management and business; and our specialist PhD in Finance. Both variants provide structured and high level research training which is recognised by the Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC), but the research training requirements for each variant are different. Whichever variant you choose, you can be confident that our programme will prepare you for a career in top academic institutions or leading business organisations.
Both variants of the programme are 3-4 years in length for full-time students, commencing in October each year. There is no part-time option for the PhD in Finance. Students who are resident in the UK may apply to study part-time on the business and management variant.
You will register initially for the degree of MPhil. In the first year you will undertake the compulsory research training programme for your chosen variant and will need to make a successful presentation of your research proposal in order to upgrade your registration to PhD. You will also start working with your supervisor on your research topic from the outset but once you have upgraded to PhD, this will become your main focus, resulting in the completion of a thesis which makes a substantial and original contribution to knowledge
