About the Programme

The University of Chichester has one full Bursary for PhD study for 3 years available in the area of Sport Sciences and Physical Education. Applications will be accepted for the four projects detailed below. The preference will be to appoint an applicant wishing to study full time.

1. Enhancing learning and attainment in music through a self-regulation intervention

The successful candidate will be jointly supervised by Dr. Laura Ritchie (Teaching Fellow in Music, University of Chichester, 01243 816245, l.ritchie@chi.ac.uk), Dr Philip Kearney (Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology, 01243 816353, p.kearney@chi.ac.uk), and Dr Iain Greenlees (Reader in Sport and Exercise Psychology, University of Chichester, 01243 816437, i.greenlees@chi.ac.uk).

2. The development of social and cultural capital in children and educational attainment

The successful candidate will be jointly supervised by Dr Elizabeth Pike (Reader in the Sociology of Sport and Exercise , 01243 816356, (e.pike@chi.ac.uk), Dr Suzanne Everley (Senior Lecturer Physical Education) and Dr Jon Spence (Director of Chichester Institute of Education) with additional support from Andy Wild (Head of Continuing Professional Development Experience).

3. The efficacy of video simulation to train surveillance strategies for lifeguards

We are particularly interested in high calibre applicants who want to play an active role in the continued development of our research environment. Applicants should have an existing MSc or MA qualification. Every applicant should have good quantitative and/or qualitative research methods skills appropriate to their discipline, and should be a well-organised, self-motivated researcher.
