 Awaiting Funding Decision/Possible External Funding

About the Programme

At the Spectrum Centre we focus on translational research that aims to understand the underlying mechanisms of mental health problems and develop and test interventions to alleviate distress and enhance well being.

If you have (or are likely to obtain this year) a 1st class degree or high 2:1, or have a masters in psychology or research, and would be interested in working with us to develop a proposal for funding, then please contact us. The funding deadlines are very tight so if you are hoping to start a PhD next academic year, then you need to be in touch very soon.

We are interested in discussing any areas that are linked to the broad focus of our research. Please visit the website to get a clearer idea of what we do. However, particular areas of interest might include:

1. Transdiagnostic psychological processes across the lifespan for people with affective instability (Prof Steve Jones)
2. Peer support interventions in mental health – understanding how to involve service users in supporting each other most effectively (Dr Fiona Lobban)
3. Development of “in work” interventions to help people with bipolar disorder to remain in / return to work (Prof Steve Jones)
4. Expressed Emotion in relatives of people with mental health problems – turning a label into a formulation (Dr Fiona Lobban)
5. Developing interventions to support parents with Bipolar Disorder and their children (Prof Steve Jones)
