The department offers a vibrant research environment and first-class facilities, including the York Neuroimaging Centre, the Henry Wellcome Building for Cognition, and a brand new three-storey extension to house three active research groups in the areas of semantic cognition, face perception and sleep and memory.
Funding for September 2019 start
This year we will have at four full studentships available in any subject area (cover home/EU fees and provide a stipend of around £14500/year):
5 x departmental teaching studentships (open to all students).
Our faculty can offer supervision within any of these key areas of Psychological research:
Cognition and communication (including language, memory, attention, spatial and numerical processing, sleep-associated memory consolidation)
Developmental and social psychology (including typical and atypical development of language, literacy, memory in children, development of social behaviours)
Perception and action (including fundamental neuroscience and significant applied research)

We encourage you to then contact the member of staff directly and discuss potential research projects. With guidance from your potential supervisor you should then complete the online application form, which includes a research proposal.
To be considered for a studentship we must receive your application by January 14th 2019. Initial supervisor interviews will be completed before the 28th January 2019. The strongest candidates will then be shortlisted for a second interview on 13th and 15th February 2019 and funding offered to successful candidates by the end of February.

Facilities
The department is in an attractive location on the main University campus and occupies modern purpose-built accommodation and is furnished with state-of-the-art research and computer equipment. All our research postgraduates are provided with their own desk and computer and have full access to laboratory facilities. Details of our research facilities are on our research webpages (http://www.york.ac.uk/psychology/research/facilities/), and some of our more specialised research facilities include:
• York Neuroimaging Centre (provides 3T MRI, whole-head MEG, high density EEG and TMS plus high-performance computing facilities for image analysis)
• Three bed sleep laboratory with EEG
• Hearing and speech laboratory with a large-scale sound-attenuating environment
• Four fully equipped 64-channel EEG systems
• Transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS) facilities
• Video analysis suite
The department maintains excellent contact with local schools and hospitals for work in developmental psychology and neuropsychology. There are also close links with the Home Office, the Prison and Probation Services, the Police and several zoos that allow behavioural animal research.
