About the Project

Applications are sought for a 3-year PhD studentship to work on a new European Research Council funded project entitled “Health Effects of Social Change in Gender, Work & Family using Life Course Evidence from Great Britain.” The overall aim of the project is to use data from the four British birth cohort studies to assess the health impact of social changes in women’s and men’s work-family life courses. The specific objective of the work of this studentship is to examine the effects of changing work and family patterns on children’s emotional and physical development using data from the UK Millennium Cohort Study (MCS).

The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr Anne McMunn, and will be based in the ESRC-funded International Centre for Life Course Studies of Society and Health (ICLS), (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/epidemiology/icls) within the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health at University College London (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/epidemiology). The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of researchers and PhD students.

The studentship is for 3 years and applicants should hold a Master’s degree of a suitable standard (preferably passing with a merit or distinction) in a relevant topic, as well as a First Class or Upper Second Class Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject area. Relevant subject areas include social sciences, epidemiology, public health, or statistics.

Funding Notes

Candidates must be eligible for home fees. The studentship covers home fees and stipend of approximately £14,500 pa.
