Prof H Liang  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

Advanced non-invasive optical imaging techniques such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and hyperspectral imaging have found increasing applications in a wide range of disciplines from biomedical science to archaeology. A variety of state-of-the-art OCT and spectral imaging instruments have been developed in our group for specific material imaging applications. This project will develop methods for non-invasive material identification, dynamic imaging of novel nanomaterial (as both functional and contrast agents) in collaboration with colleagues in chemistry. One of the main aspects of the applications is on imaging of cave paintings along the Silk Road at a UNESCO world heritage site for archaeology and the development of novel nanomaterial as consolidants for conservation.

Entry requirement
A first class or upper second class U.K. B.Sc. (Hons) degree (or equivalent) or Master degrees in Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science or one of the related Physical or Engineering Sciences with an upper second or first class undergraduate degree classification.

Eligibility
Applications can be accepted from UK/EU and also International students. The minimum English language proficiency requirement for candidates who have not undertaken a higher degree at a UK HE institution is IELTS 6.5 (with no element to be below 6.0) or TOEFL 560/iBT 94-95.
