Prof K Kosmala, Prof G Jeffery  No more applications being accepted  Competition Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

The project will stimulate debate on art as a form of ‘social movement’ that encapsulates challenges to existing forms of governance. The aim of the project is to explore creative responses to issues of regeneration, ecological sustainability and community in urban contexts led by artists.

In the last forty years there has been an explosion of artistic activity focused on sustainability and politics of land use, often drawing on participatory and community arts practices. The project may contain a strong practice-led element and will link to CCA Glasgow’s ongoing programme of work.

The project will reflect on future organizational and institutional issues associated with current environmental challenge in the context of unfolding global crisis.

The studentship may benefit from the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) Office of UWS’s Glasgow Creative Enterprise Cluster and will be supervised by a team drawn from the School of Creative and Cultural Industries. The interdisciplinary cluster brings together researchers, students and practitioners to consider issues of collaborative and creative work, cultural labour, and discourses of creativity, identity and community in the context of a globalising network society.
