About the Project

This research may involve, for instance: the history of consumption; British social and cultural history since 1900; the history of social movements, social activism and non-governmental organisations, including histories of environmental action, human rights, womens rights, aid and development, etc; or histories of humanitarianism.

CAL Doctoral Scholarships
Each year the College of Arts and Law offers a number of doctoral scholarships, to cover fees and maintenance, for study starting in October. These are available to both home/EU and overseas students; they cover tuition fees at UK/EU rates, plus a maintenance stipend (of around £13,590). The 2013/14 competition is now closed. The deadline for applications was 4pm, Monday 28 January 2013. Please check back later in the year for details of the 2014/15 competition. AHRC
The University of Birmingham offers a number of scholarships through its Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Block Grant Partnership funding competition. These are available to UK and EU students; they cover tuition fees at UK/EU rates, plus a maintenance stipend (of around £13,590). For 2013 we were able to offer 13 doctoral studentships. The deadline for applications was 4pm, Monday 28 January 2013. The 2014 competition is not yet open; please check back later in the year for more details.
