About the Project

Our lab is interested in how protein phosphorylation drives mitosis and orchestrates cell division. The precise control of the mitotic spindle is essential for accurate chromosome segregation and maintenance of genome stability. Disturbances in these dynamics are thought to be a major source of cancer. Understanding these molecular mechanisms is of pivotal importance to unravel the fundamental biological problem of cell division. It will also help identify novel strategies to target mitotic progression that could be used therapeutically. The successful applicant will join a concerted effort of the Hochegger lab to study mitotic kinase function in mammalian cells. The lab’s multi-disciplinary projects involve a variety of methodologies and approaches ranging from chemical genetics, to proteomics and 4D life cell imaging. The successful applicant will join a well funded team of young and highly motivated scientists, including three senior postdoctoral fellows that will provide assistance and close supervision. Moreover, the GDSC offers a stimulating and collaborative research environment. The student will engage with the centre’s formal PhD training program and attend weekly lab meetings and seminars from internal and external speakers. Funding Notes

The successful applicant will obtain a PhD studentship, and will conduct his/her project within a well funded (CRUK, ERC, Marie Curie) research laboratory.
