About the Project

As part of an effort to consolidate its status as world leading in the history of philosophy, the philosophy department at the University of Aberdeen invites PhD projects in the area of early modern philosophy (broadly defined, from the Late Renaissance to Kant). Apart from providing expert supervision in all core areas in early modern philosophy (metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy), the University of Aberdeen also proposes excellent opportunities for cross-disciplinary projects, with special emphasis on research between the history of philosophy and the history of science. There is also a particular interest in the contemporary use of early modern philosophy. The student will also become a member of the Scottish Seminar in Early Modern Philosophy, a research group for early modern philosophy based in Aberdeen which organizes an annual conference.
