About the Project

We are recruiting a driven student to join a dynamic research team within the Biomolecular Interaction Centre at the University of Canterbury on a project associated with Canterbury Scientific Ltd (recent winners of the Global Operator Award and the Supreme Award at the 2012 Champion Canterbury Awards). The successful candidate will undertake a PhD project, jointly supervised by Prof. Antony Fairbanks (Chemistry, UC), Prof. Juliet Gerrard (Biology, UC), and Dr Renwick Dobson (Biology, UC) working on a publically funded project aimed at developing a novel biomedical test for diabetics at risk of developing further complications. The project offers the possibility of working at the Australian Synchrotron (Melbourne, Australia) and with Canterbury Scientific Ltd (Christchurch, New Zealand).

We are seeking a student with a background/interest in synthetic organic chemistry (essential), with a complementary interest in Biochemistry, an entrepreneurial spirit, and the drive to go the extra mile to get the job done.

Funding Notes

The project is fully funded by a $1,100,000 research grant from the New Zealand Ministry and Science and Innovation. We offer $21K (inclusive of a $6,000 contribution to fees) per annum for the PhD Scholarship. (Fees are ~$6500 pa for both domestic and international students.)
