About the Project

To look at the performance of carbon composite materials under lighting strike. This will involve testing and modelling to include the effect of sparking, and to develop novel solutions for lightning protection of aircraft components. To enable these studies or investigations, new measurement techniques will be developed. This project is closely linked with the ALDER project run by EADS UK in collaboration with EADS Toulouse.

Candidates should hold or expect to gain a first class degree or a good 2.1 and/or an appropriate Master’s level qualification (or equivalent).



Funding Notes

The studentship is open to: UK students; EU students who have been resident in the UK for three years at the course start date; other candidates who can demonstrate a connection to the UK, usually through residency. Other EU applications may be eligible for a fees-only award.

The full award will cover fees at the Home/EU rate and will provide an annual stipend (£13,590 in 2012/13).
