About the Project

Applications are sought for a PhD studentship linking the fields of Biomedical Diagnostics and Synthetic Biology through the development of low cost microengineered devices, including Lab-on-Chip.

The area of study is focussed on developing a advanced but low cost technologies to manipulate and detect biological markers associated with human health and wellbeing. The detection methods will be underpinned by the use of Synthetic Biology, resulting in a diagnostic platform that can be implemented in the Developed and Developing World.

This position arises through funding from the Centre for Doctoral Training and Research Landscape activities, a multidisciplinary research programme funded by the EPSRC to focus on innovative technologies for understanding the causes of disease. The position is open to UK, EU or International students. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies; will receive excellent support and training; and will interact with some of the very best academic groups in the UK, working at the interface between engineering and biomedicine.

We are keen to explore this opportunity with individuals who have a broad interest in technology, but who may come from a range of different backgrounds, including engineering, physical sciences or the biological sciences. Applicants will have an excellent undergraduate honours degree and/or a masters degree.
