About the Project

Exercise is considered of benefit to patients with left ventricular heart failure. There is debate over the use of exercise as a therapeutic tool in pulmonary hypertension, a condition that causes right ventricular heart failure (Handoko et al 2009, Circulation, 120; 42-49).

Using a rat model of pulmonary hypertension we will investigate the potential beneficial effects of exercise in this model. Techniques available for study are described in the references below.

Funding Notes

2 Anatomy Demonstrating PhD studentships, to start in Oct 2013.

The studentship will cover the cost of tuition fees (£3,950 - UK/EU rate for 2013-14) and a maintenance grant (£14,590 for 2013-14) in return for which the student will be required to do 120-150 hours anatomy demonstrating per year. International Applicants are eligible to apply but will be required to demonstrate how they intend meet the shortfall in tuition fees. Applicants must have experience of studying or teaching human gross anatomy and can register for their PhD in any school in FBS. Deadline is 3rd June.
