About the Project

A Ph.D. studentship (Stipend £13,590 pa) is available in the research group of Professor Andrew Cooper in the Chemistry Department, University of Liverpool to commence in October 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. Porous materials are important in a variety of applications such as molecular separations, catalysis, and energy storage. Our group has developed a new method for preparing porous materials with extended conjugation (Angew. Chem., Int. Ed., 2007, 46, 8574; J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2008, 130 7710; Angew. Chem., Int. Ed., 2011, 50, 996). The project will involve aspects of organic synthesis, polymer synthesis and materials characterization. The successful applicant will join a large and diverse research group (see www.liv.ac.uk/chemistry/res/coopergroup/) and will collaborate with other members of the team, for example with researchers in the area of molecular modeling and ‘high throughput’ synthesis. The project will also exploit state-of-the-art robotic synthesis infrastructure available in the Centre for Materials Discovery (www.liv.ac.uk/materials-discovery). Applicants should hold a Masters level degree in Chemistry, or equivalent, and project experience in organic chemistry or polymer chemistry would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite.
