About the Project

Healthy ageing is associated with physiological, behavioural and neurobiological changes. Although evidence has clearly shown that healthy ageing is associated with a level of cortical atrophy we have yet to understand the full extent of such changes on behaviour, especially in the area of decision-making. Understanding these changes are critical is providing a foundation of knowledge so that future research can investigate how cognitive functioning can be preserved in a greater number of older adults, which is extremely important given the trend for an increasingly ageing population in many countries.

This project has the potential to use a variety of experimental approaches to understanding changes in decision-making during healthy ageing over the adult life-span. Such methods may involve EEG (ERP), fMRI, eye-tracking, physiological monitoring and/or behavioural testing.

Funding Notes

Dr Hinvest will consider applications from those applicants who are happy to compete for University and Graduate School funding, obtain external funding or self-fund their studies. Funding is difficult to obtain and highly competitive. You are responsible for researching sources of funding early (in some cases up to 12 months in advance) and applying (in conjunction with your agreed supervisor) for as many as possible. For further details of Graduate School funding competitions see the webpage at http://www.bath.ac.uk/hss/graduate-school/pgr-scholarships-studentships.html
