PhD Research Project
In response to a growing need for renewable energy, the prevalence of small scale in-stream hydro-electric generating schemes is burgeoning in the UK and Ireland. However the potential impacts on the natural aquatic fauna is poorly understood. In particular the impact of small scale hydro installations on native fish species.
This project will use a combination of experimental manipulation and field trails to attempt to determine the potential long-term impact of different small scale hydro designs on native fish populations.
The project will be based at the Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment on Loch Lomondside and at the Loughs Agency in Northern Ireland (approximately 50% time in each location). There will be a significant element of field work in this project.
Funding Notes:
This studentship attracts an annual stipend of £13,560 and is open to any suitably qualified candidate from the UK or EU countries. Because of funding and restrictions the studentship must begin by June 2012.
Preliminary applications comprising a full CV, including contact details for 2 referees and a covering letter explaining why you are particularly suitable for this studentship, should be sent to Colin.Adams@glasgow.ac.uk
Interviews are likely to be held in early May.
