It aims to develop mathematical models to be used to (i) quantify the impacts of the most significant infection, worm parasitism in cattle, (ii) develop scenarios and generate hypotheses regarding their integrated control, with emphasis on genetic and management, and (iii) develop a tool to be used to advise on effective integrated parasite control strategies.

Combining expertise in biology, veterinary science and mathematical modelling, the project will equip the student with unique skills for a future career.

Value of the Award of Eligibility:
The award is only available to UK and EU Nationals who have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the last 3 years. The award covers 4 years tuition fees and will pay a generous stipend of £16,090pa.

Person Specification:
This is a computer-based project suitable for a student with numerical skills, who would relish the opportunity to address challenging biological problems and develop methods leading to applied solutions. The successful candidate will have a good first degree (first or upper second class) in Biology, Animal or Veterinary Science, Genetics, Mathematical Biology or other relevant subject.

How to Apply:
You must apply through the University’s online postgraduate application form inserting the reference number (AG010) and selecting PhD School of Agriculture, Food & Rural Development – Animal Sciences as programme of study. Only mandatory fields need to be completed (no research proposal is required) and a covering letter, CV and (if English is not your first language) a copy of your English language qualifications must be attached. The covering letter must state the title of the studentship, quote the reference number (AG010) and state how your interests and experience relate to the project.
