The project contributes an understanding of how digital technologies can enhance therapeutic play within a children’s hospital.
The candidate will engage in participatory design with children, parents and staff within a hospital, integrate theoretical understandings of therapeutic play with design work, and develop and evaluate a range of interactive digital technologies within a hospital setting.
This PhD is based within Culture Lab, an interdisciplinary research group with a growing international reputation within HCI. We hold significant expertise in the field of digital health and wellbeing and the applicant will work within this group to support a range of research activities within the area.
You should have either a First class honours degree in Computing Science, Mathematics, or other relevant science or engineering subject, or a or 2.1 in Computing Science or other relevant science, engineering or design subject or a distinction level Masters degree in a related subject. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
Funding Notes:
The stipend is £14,790 (2012/13) per year.
To be eligible for a full award (stipend and fees):
A student must have: (a) settled status in the UK, meaning they have no restrictions on how long they can stay; (b) been ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the grant; (c) not been residing in the UK mainly for the purpose of full-time education. Candidates who are permanent legal residents in the EU qualify for the full award. The studentship is not available for candidates from outside of the EU.
