About the Project

Cloud computing is becoming prevalent. Yet, how do we know that computing delivered as a service is secure? Cloud infrastructures often consist of vast networks of hypervisors, virtual machines, (virtual) LANs and hard disks. As if this complex configuration is not troubling enough, it is constantly changing, sometimes fiddled with by one administrator, and sometimes banged up by another administrator. Indeed, it is an interesting and challenging question whether the dynamic configuration changes get along with each other and still maintain overall security. This project explores efficient analysis and validation of dynamically changing infrastructure clouds.

You should have either a First class honours degree in Computing Science, Mathematics, or other relevant science or engineering subject, or a or 2.1 in Computing Science, Mathematics or other relevant science or engineering subject and a distinction level Masters degree in a related subject. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

Funding Notes

The stipend is £14,790 (2012/13) per year.
To be eligible for a full award (stipend and fees): student must have: (a) settled status in UK, meaning no restrictions on how long they can stay; (b) been ‘ordinarily resident’ in UK for 3 years prior to start of the grant; (c) not been residing in UK mainly for purpose of full-time education. References

You must apply through the University’s online postgraduate application form inserting the reference CS033 on the first page of the application form and select PhD Computer Science as the programme of study. Only mandatory fields need to be completed and a covering letter, CV and (if English is not your first language) a copy of your English language qualifications must be attached. The covering letter must state the title of the studentship, quote the reference CS033 and describe how your research interests fit with the topic of the research project outlined in the advertisement (max. 2 pages). If you already have published research papers please provide bibliographic details in the covering letter.

Please also send your covering letter and CV to the Postgraduate Secretary at cs.pg@ncl.ac.uk.
