New generation vision-based interaction - EngD collaboration with Microsoft Research (Jan 2014)

UCL Computer Science, in collaboration with Microsoft Research, is inviting applications for an EngD in this ground-breaking area. Candidates must demonstrate high-level knowledge and skills in developing vision-based technologies. Advanced training is also provided via our MRes programme. The successful candidate will gain a prestigious EPSRC EngD studentship sponsored by MSR.

The first year of the EngD programme includes an intensive taught component, leading to the qualification of Masters in Research. Further training is supported in innovation and enterprise.

The topic is to engineer and test novel methods in augmented reality, gaming and novel display technologies. There is scope to work with MS technologies such as Kinect and Surface, while the candidate would develop entirely new technologies. A passion for technology is a must. A background in one or more of the following preferred:

• 3D computer graphics (GPU programming a plus)
• Computer vision
• Electronics (PCB design, soldering etc)
• Applied optics

Applicants are required to have
• A bachelor degree (1st or 2.1 honours)
• Good knowledge of computer graphics and mathematics
• Strong programming skills, including in graphics
• Good communication and presentation skills
