Prof C Murrell  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

The overall objective of this project is to investigate the role of aerobic methylotrophic bacteria in key biogeochemical cycles in the marine environment. The project will involve the use of cultivation-independent molecular ecology techniques including DNA Stable Isotope Probing and metagenomics, to determine what methylotrophic bacteria are present in the marine environment and which members of the microbial community are active in cycling of one carbon compounds. The project will also involve process based measurements of C1 compound cycling and the PhD student will spend time with project partners at Plymouth Marine Laboratory.

Funding Notes

Funding is available for UK/EU students. Funding awarded for this project will cover tuition fees and stipend for UK students. EU students may be eligible for full funding, or tuition fees only, depending on the funding source.
