Developing formulations designed to deliver antiseptic agents to target sites within the skin

We are inviting applications for a full-time PhD studentship in the area of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. This studentship will be a part of the Doctoral Training Alliance in ‘Applied Biosciences for Health’.

About the studentship -

The student will be based at the University of Huddersfield and undertake a project within the Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention under the supervision of Professor Barbara Conway. The aim of this project is to develop formulations designed to deliver antiseptic agents to target sites within the skin. Training will be given in a range of relevant techniques including HPLC, thermal analysis, AFM, SEM and particle sizing.

The University of Huddersfield is part of the recently established Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA) in Applied Biosciences for Health, a University Alliance initiative which aims to deliver a new approach to postgraduate research opportunities. It builds on the research strengths and industry-focused ethos of Alliance universities, offering fully funded postgraduate programmes which deliver excellent research with real world impact, an expert network of support and potential employment opportunities for researchers.

The student will become a member of the faculty post-graduate community and receive comprehensive training in not only the area of the project but also will acquire practical innovation and entrepreneurial expertise. This will include attendance at the DTA Training Schools.

Funding details -

The studentship is available from 21 September for a period of 3 years, subject to satisfactory progress and includes a tax exempt bursary (currently £14,057 per annum) and the full cost of tuition fees for Home/EU students (overseas students will be responsible for the difference between Home/EU and overseas fee rates (approximately £7,641 per annum)) . The studentship also includes £1500 per year for travel and subsistence to enable interaction between the collaborating organisations.

Eligibility criteria -

Applicants must have a good honours degree (2.1 or equivalent) in Pharmacy or a related pharmaceutical or other relevant discipline. Desirable criteria are evidence of further study at Masters level or equivalent and practical laboratory experience. You will be provided with excellent training and supported in your development as an independent researcher. If English is not your first language, you will be asked to provide proof of proficiency.
