She has a strong focus on the development of the undergraduate history syllabus and the enhancement of teaching, having also served as Head of Department. Her historical research centres on the complex interplay between politics, society, and religion in early-modern German-speaking Europe. Currently, she is working on a history of the Habsburg dynasty. Professor Fulton holds several qualifications, including a PhD in History from the University of St Andrews (2003), an MLitt (with Distinction) in Reformation Studies from the University of St Andrews (1998), and an MA (First Class) in Modern History from the same institution. She also obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Birmingham in 2010. In addition to her academic roles, she has participated in various quality audits, internal reviews, and appointment and promotion committees, and serves as an external examiner for History programmes at multiple universities. Professor Fulton has contributed to numerous conferences and workshops, and her publications reflect her expertise in the field of history, particularly regarding the Reformation and early modern Europe.
Professor Elaine Fulton''s research focuses on the complex interplay between politics, society, and religion in early-modern German-speaking Europe. She is currently working on a history of the Habsburg dynasty. Her academic interests include the Reformation and its impact on society, as well as the preservation of authority in post-Tridentine Catholicism.
