Professor Michael J. E. Sternberg is the Director of the Centre for Integrative Systems Biology and Bioinformatics (CISBIO) and holds the Chair of Structural Bioinformatics at Imperial College London. He entered the field of Bioinformatics after completing a D.Phil in Biophysics at the University of Oxford. Prior to this, he obtained a first degree in Physics from the University of Cambridge and a Master''s in Computing from Imperial College London. Professor Sternberg has held positions at Oxford, Birkbeck College, and Cancer Research UK before joining Imperial College in 2001. His work at CISBIO focuses on developing interdisciplinary approaches to biological problems, emphasising a cycle of experimentation and modelling. He has also been involved in outreach programmes funded by the Royal Society and Rolls Royce.
Professor Sternberg''s research focuses on various aspects of bioinformatics and systems biology. His main research interests include the prediction of protein structure and function, macromolecular docking and interactions, and the impact of genetic variants associated with diseases. He is also involved in network modelling for systems biology and logic-based drug design. Professor Sternberg''s interdisciplinary approach combines experimentation and modelling to address biological problems.
