Pathogen manipulation of intracellular membrane trafficking |
Lysosomes are cellular organelles that degrade phagocytosed material and hence they form part of our innate immunity. However, some microbes and parasites such as Salmonella and Leishmania , can survive intracellularly by avoiding the destruction by the lysosome. This project aims to develop an in vitro lysosome-phagosome fusion assay and investigate how pathogens can alter intracellular membrane traffic to create their replicative niche.
