As we come to the end of 2019, we’ve decided to take a look at our most read blogs of the year. And, with Elf on repeat, eating your seventh mince pie of the day, we hope that you are enjoying the Christmas holidays and making the most of your time off!
This year has certainly been an eventful one. We’ve seen a general election, Liverpool win the Champions League for the first time since 2005 and, of course, the Game of Thrones finale.
But, here on FindAPhD, the hot topic of 2019 seemed to be PhD applications. From tips on what to do (and what not to do) for your CV and research proposals, to finding the perfect supervisor. So, let’s take a look at our top five.

Your PhD supervisor is one of the most important aspects of your PhD (apart from you and your project), so it is no surprise that this blog made it into the top five.
Chantelle describes six things you should look for in a PhD supervisor and how to find out what actually makes a good supervisor.

Writing a research proposal can be a daunting task, so it is no wonder this blog proved to be a popular one.
The advice given here highlights some common pitfalls people encounter when writing a PhD proposal, and also explains how you can avoid them.

It’s easy to get bogged down trying to fit absolutely everything into a research proposal, and although we have covered what goes into a good research proposal, this blog takes a different approach by telling you what isn’t required for a PhD research proposal.

This is a firm FindAPhD favourite, making it to the top of last year's most read list.
Our guest blogger, Gaia Cantelli, offers her advice on how to get your CV PhD ready with ten easy and valuable tips to follow.

This year’s number one blog also comes from Gaia Cantelli, who provides a great checklist of how to make the time you put into your application worthwhile and make things easier, from start to finish.
We hope you have found these blogs useful (and enjoyable!) and we look forward to checking back with you in 2020, when we will continue to keep you up-to-date with the latest postgraduate advice and opportunities. Not to forget funding, and what Brexit will mean for you and your postgraduate studies.
If you’ve got an exciting or inspiring story that you want to tell, or think it might help other postgraduate students, why not blog for us in 2020? We’re always on the lookout for new voices to join us.
