Studentships – CPM Interreg

Applications are invited for a number of PhD studentships in the area of Personalised Medicine and Computational Biology/Medicine. Candidates should hold, or expect to hold a first or upper second class honours degree in (a) Biostatistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a cognate area (b) Stratified Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biology or a cognate area, and be able to demonstrate strong cross-disciplinary interest. Applications will be considered on a competitive basis with regard to the candidate’s qualifications, skills experience and interests. Successful candidates will enrol as of 1 October 2017, on a full-time programme of research studies leading to the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

Each studentship will comprise fees and an annual stipend of £14,553. It will be awarded for a period of up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress, and is tenable in the new CENTRE FOR PERSONALISED MEDICINE - Clinical Decision Making & Patient Safety based at C-TRIC, Altnagelvin Hospital.

This €8.6 million cross-border research project, led by Ulster University’s Northern Ireland Centre for Stratified Medicine, is funded by the EU’s INTERREG VA programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body. This pioneering research is some of the most exciting and advanced research in personalised medicine currently being undertaken globally. This multi-disciplinary, collaborative, personalised medicine project between academic, clinical and commercial sectors focuses on emergency surgery, heart disease, acute kidney injury, diabetes and dementia.

Available studentships are in the areas of cardiovascular disease, acute kidney injury and Alzheimer’s disease. Projects will involve patient recruitment and/or health data analytics. There are two PhD projects (clinical and/or computational) available in each of the following areas

Acute Kidney Injury

Alzheimer’s Disease
