University of Brighton

The University of Brighton is a teaching, research and knowledge exchange community of over 23,000 students and 2,600 staff centred at campuses in the city of Brighton and Hove, a vibrant and creative seaside city on the South-East coast of the United Kingdom. By train, we are only one hour away from London, and 30 minutes away from London's Gatwick Airport. We welcome UK and international students to play their part in our vibrant research culture, where over 400 PhD students currently work across a range of disciplines, often with high-impact, real-world objectives and successes.

We pride ourselves on our multidisciplinary approach to research and the ways in which applied disciplines interact and co-research with businesses and communities outside the university. Our researchers are making significant contributions to social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing across a broad range of work, from the arts, humanities and social sciences to the physical and life sciences, technology and engineering.

Around a quarter of our PhD students are from international backgrounds, while a third are studying as part-time students. As well as benefiting from this flexibility in their studies, a system of research centres and groups, disciplinary schools and our central doctoral college allows our PhD students to meet fellow researchers of all ages, experiences, life-situations and across complementary topic areas. This flexibility and network of support has helped many of our doctoral students balance work and life commitments, make the most of their doctoral life, and complete their PhD successfully, moving on to rewarding careers.

If you join the University of Brighton, you will also have opportunities to build on your studies by getting involved in the life of a city that is in the top 10 most visited places in the UK by overseas visitors. Our university's research partners and beneficiaries are drawn from across the globe and the UK as well as from the local region, demonstrating how important our role is in the community. These activities involve public sector collaborations, from the NHS to the European Union, work with international companies and start-ups as well as charities.

We look forward to telling you more about the University of Brighton and perhaps welcoming you to study in our research community.
