In 1907, the Institut Sainte-Geneviève founded the Institut des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (Institute of Economic and Commercial Sciences) to inculcate moral values in the business world and train a new generation of business leaders. Since that time, ESSEC has become one of Europe’s top management schools, while remaining true to ESSEC’s unique calling of promoting ethics and openness to the world.
ESSEC is affiliated with the Versailles Val d’Oise-Yvelines (CCIV) Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the second largest in France after the Paris Chamber. The school is managed by a Board of Directors and a Board of Overseers, which bring together members of the ESSEC community (alumni, faculty, students), CCIV representatives and figures of the economic community.
The entrepreneurial spirit is one of ESSEC’s key values. Giving students a taste of entrepreneurship and innovation has led ESSEC to conduct pioneering efforts in this arena. With the creation of ESSEC Ventures in 2000, ESSEC began offering entrepreneurship education, a business incubator, post incubator and seed fund. In 2008, ESSEC enhanced the program with Antropia, a social incubator that fosters the profitability and long-term viability of social ventures in their field of endeavor.
