FCI is one of the largest faculties of its kind in the UK and enjoys close relationships with the creative industries in Wales, the UK and internationally. Based in Cardiff, a fast-growing media hub for film, television and the arts, the faculty will shortly open its Atrium 2 building with state-of the art facilities for creative industries teaching.
Our research is housed in the Creative Industries Research Institute and its centres of excellence, namely:
• Centre for Media and Culture in Small Nations
• European Centre for Photography Research
• George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling
In REF 2014, 65% of the faculty's research in UoA D35 Music, Drama, Dance and Performing Arts (including media and cultural studies) and 75% of research in UoA D34 Art & Design (as part of the joint submission from WIRAD) were rated either internationally excellent (3*) or world-leading (4*).
These scholarships represent a major investment in the next generation of creative industries scholars and research, and is integral to the University's planning for the next REF exercise.
This call is open to all scholars with research interests in creative industries and we welcome applicants employing a range of methods and (inter)disciplinary approaches. However we are particularly keen to hear from people working in the following areas:
• Documentary film and photography (including curatorial and practice as research projects)
• Drama (including radio and television drama, and set design)
• Media and culture in small nations
• Performance (including community arts; performance and heritage)
• Popular music
• Media and cultural studies (including audiences & fandom; gender; popular culture
