About the Programme

Fellowship 1 : fully funded PhD Fellowship in Psychology: Development of Preterm born children from Birth to Adulthood

This PhD student will be working with Professor Dieter Wolke in the Research of Children and Adults born Preterm (RECAP) project. (www.recap-preterm.eu). This PhD student will be working in collaboration with partners around Europe and beyond to combine data to conduct analysis on the mental health, neuro-cognitive, socio-emotional functioning and economic adult outcomes and their effects on health-related quality of life and participation in society after very preterm birth or maternal depression.

The project will determine the variations of neonatal treatment (e.g. medical, parenting) and environmental risk and protective factors (e.g. schooling, bullying, friendship support) in childhood on adult outcomes across cohorts. Further questions are whether outcome after preterm birth has improved over the last decades. Do the findings allow the prediction of future outcomes in preterm children born today or what are the factors that help at risk preterm children beat the odds (resiliency)? As part of the studentship contrasting developmental models will be tested.

The PhD Fellowship award
The award will be for a Fellowship that pays academic fees at the Home/EU rate (£4,195 in 2017/18) and a maintenance grant of at least £12,500 per annum for three years. Successful applicants will also have the opportunity to bid for additional funding of approx. £2,000 per annum for any teaching work that they undertake in the Department.

Fellowship 2: fully funded PhD fellowship in Social Psychology.

We are delighted to announce that a Departmental funded PhD Fellowship will be available for students wishing to start a PhD in October 2018.

The Fellowship pays academic fees at the Home/EU rate and a maintenance grant of at least £12,500 per annum for three years. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to bid for additional funding of approx. £2,000 per annum for any teaching work that they undertake in the Department.

This award is specifically for a project supervised by Dr Jesse Preston. Further details of this project can be found by following the link.

Broadly, PhD students in this lab will study the psychology of belief, with particular emphasis on conflict between beliefs, moralization, and how beliefs obtain meaning. Some examples of general research questions include: What is the relationship between religious and scientific beliefs? How do beliefs obtain moral value? How do beliefs impact environmental attitudes?

Applicants should have either a good Upper Second Class degree plus a Masters Distinction OR a First Class degree in Psychology or related field. Applications should be made through the Graduate School online form: warwick.ac.uk/pgapply

Please specify in the finance and funding section on the form that you wish to be considered for a Departmental PhD Fellowship and also specify your proposed supervisor. In the case of the project supervised by Dr Preston, please provide a short document (2 pages maximum) detailing why you are a suitable candidate for studying your choice of project – for example, your qualifications, interests, and relevant experience.

Closing date: 8 March 2018
