Dr Giuseppe Pileio, Prof Malcolm Levitt  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

Applications are invited for a PhD Studentship in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in the research group of Dr Giuseppe Pileio and with the co-supervision of Prof Malcolm H Levitt. The project concerns the development of NMR methodology and hardware that combines supercritical fluids with long-lived states NMR and dissolution-DNP to prolong the storage of hyperpolarised spin order and allow it to be transported remotely from the production site. The successful candidate will be trained in advanced liquid-state NMR techniques such as singlet NMR and dissolution-DNP. He/She will be involved in the development of new NMR methodology as well as in the design and construction of NMR hardware, electronic/digital controllers, parts to interface supercritical fluid chromatography, dissolution-DNP and NMR hardware.

Funding Notes

The project is funded for 3 years and welcomes applicants from the UK and EU who have or expect to obtain at least an upper second class degree in Chemistry or Physics or allied subjects/relevant disciplines. Funding will cover fees and a stipend at current research council rates of £ 14,296 per annum.

Due to funding restrictions this position is only open to UK/EU applicants.
