Dr Hem Sharma is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool, where he has been employed since March 2007. He completed his Doctorate in Physics at the Free University Berlin, Germany, from September 1999 to October 2002, focusing on the structure, morphology, and dynamics of quasicrystal surfaces under the supervision of Prof. Karl-Heinz Rieder. Prior to his doctorate, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Condensed Matter Physics from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, and a Master''s Course in Atomic Physics from Rikkyo University in Tokyo, Japan. Dr Sharma''s professional experience includes serving as a Senior Researcher at the National Institute for Materials Science in Japan from April 2006 to March 2007, and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the same institute from December 2002 to March 2006, supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
Dr Sharma''s research focuses on surface and nano-physics of complex materials, particularly quasicrystals and intermetallic alloys. The aim is to achieve an atomic scale understanding of physical phenomena and to explore potential technological applications, such as catalysts, solar cells, and thin film growth.
