Training and Support
PhD students participate in our lively research culture through research groups and centres, and through staff and student-led workshops and seminars.
The School provides training in research and professional skills. PhD students also benefit from training and professional development offered by the Institute of Academic Development at the University of Edinburgh, the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities, and the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science.

Alice Brown PhD Scholarship – Follow in the footsteps of one of Scotland’s most influential modern figures in social and political science with this six-year part-time PhD scholarship. It offers a programme of advanced study, ongoing research, professional training and development.
Chrystal Macmillan PhD Scholarship – This scholarship supports students who aspire to influence social change. We offer it as a three-year full-time or six-year part-time scholarship to a student researching social justice;gender and equality;human rights;or peace and conflict resolution.
School of Social and Political Science PhD Scholarship – This award will support you to be part of the next generation of social science thought leaders. It is available to students researching any area within the School of Social and Political Science.
