About the Project

Virtual Reality has had rapid growth in recent years due to its new found commercial viability. The use of this technology combined with existing hardware solutions for capturing 3D imaging data has opened up a number of projects that have wide range of opportunities for their use in a serious / non-entertainment context.

This project will focus on the accuracy, repeatability, reliability and technical challenges associated with the capture and presentation of crime scenes for use in VR. Engaging with the police force, fire service, judiciary and the public the project will develop workflows to take data captured from a scene and make it accessible for users to allow them to collaborate effectively.

Project proposals will focus on the following questions:
· How can scenes be captured accurately, repeatability and reliably?
· How can that data be presented effectively?
· How can we improve the user experience with VR in this context?

The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of 3D software (capture, modelling) and real time game engines (e.g. Unity, Unreal Engine). Experience of game and user experience design with Virtual Reality would be extremely useful.

This project is in collaboration with the 3DVisLab.
