View other supervisors at University of EdinburghCarmel Moran holds a PhD and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (FIPEM) and the Institute of Physics (FIoP). They serve as a Personal Chair of Preclinical Ultrasound at the University of Edinburgh, within the Centre for Cardiovascular Science. In 2008, with funding from the Wellcome Trust amounting to £516K, they established the preclinical ultrasound imaging facility at the university. Recently, they contributed to a successful application to the Wellcome Trust to create a preclinical large animal imaging facility. Their research primarily focuses on high-frequency ultrasound and ultrasonic contrast agents, enabling the imaging of adult, neonate, and embryonic hearts, livers, and kidneys to study their structure and blood flow dynamics in real-time. Additionally, they are collaborating with NHS colleagues to develop novel high-resolution test phantoms for the performance assessment of preclinical imaging techniques.
Carmel Moran's research focuses on high frequency ultrasound and ultrasonic contrast agents. They established the preclinical ultrasound imaging facility at the University of Edinburgh with Wellcome Trust funding and have contributed to the establishment of a preclinical large animal imaging facility. Their work involves imaging adult, neonate, and embryonic hearts, livers, and kidneys to study their structure and blood flow dynamics in real-time.
