4 Signs Computer Science is Right For You

Computers have become an inevitable part of our everyday lives. I would not be writing this blog without one and you would (probably!) not be reading it without one either. Even though most of us use computers on a daily basis, some of us work more closely with them.

If you have always been interested in how computers work and are ready to take it to the next level, then a PhD in Computer Science might be the right way forward. If you’re thinking of researching on a niche aspect of Computer Science, then you must already eat, sleep and breathe computers, but we have five tell-tale signs you should study a PhD in Computer Science

#1 You are creative

It’s time we break the misconception that science subjects are dry and do not call for much creativity. Computers are a relatively new invention and there is still plenty of research to be done in the field. With aspects like artificial intelligence taking centre-stage, there is a growing need for computer science professionals to think outside the box.

#2 You enjoy a challenge

Computer science professionals are constantly identifying and finding solutions for computer-related and sometimes solutions are not that easy to come by. If your research is related to cybersecurity or automation, which are recent but important issues, you’ll have to forever be on your toes.

#3 You have a lot of patience

Even though, as a PhD candidate, you’ll be working on a niche related to computer science, you’ll constantly be expected to sharpen your maths and science skills outside the area of your research. However, it does not end there. With the ever-evolving world of technology, you will be expected to undergo training even after you start working. If you think Computer Science is your calling, you will have to be consistent and patient.

#4 You are comfortable with change

As a Computer Science PhD student there will be a new tool or platform to discover and master every day. You’ll be expected to contribute to these changes with your and keep up to date with what others are doing. A new programming code could be the one thing to affect your research. For some, the need to adapt can feel burdensome, but if you are looking to constantly keep trying new things, its time you give a PhD in Computer Science a serious thought.
