How did FindAPhD help you find a PhD?
I did my Masters at Imperial three years ago and I was thinking "Should I do a PhD or not?", and the answer was yes. You know, there's a lot of PhDs out there, so I used FindAPhD.com to find my PhD in Oxford.
What are you researching as part of your PhD?
What I'm trying to do is find a new vaccine which boosts our immune responses robustly. We're getting there but not quite. Hopefully, we can make a good vaccine and we can eradicate TB (tuberculosis).
How do you manage your time during your PhD?
Even when you don't do MasterChef, if you want to do a PhD, you have to be very organised. You have to plan everything out at once, make sure you're happy and your supervisor is happy. When MasterChef basically popped in the middle, I was like "OK, I have to organize three days a week for doing my experiments and the other two days I'm going to London to film MasterChef." At the end of the series, we went to Peru. Basically, we went away for a week. Again, trying to organise before flying. I had to come to the lab to sort out everything. When I came back, I came back to the lab.
What's your top PhD tip?
Choose the project that you want and you love to do. Not just because you want to be at Oxford and then you go for Oxford. You have to make sure that you’ll love to do that project for three or four years.
Three words to describe your PhD experience?
Fun. Exciting. And can I say fun again?
